5 Tips to Raising Mindful Children in the 21st Century

Growing up during my generation and for most of us who can relate, we did not have much distraction from apps, social media, smart phones did not even existed! Yet we are currently both parenting and working in the Digital Age where we are using technology to do grocery, meetings, takeouts, school, meditate and communicate with everyone and everything is a click away! Beyond technology, there are strategies that we as parents can choose to find balance in raising our children mindfully:


1. BE FULLY PRESENT.

Oftentimes we are technologically distracted and busy with endless work and meetings. Let’s be mindful and be fully present with ourselves first and only then we can connect with our children while playing, reading, talking, exercising.


2. LEAD BY EXAMPLE.

We teach our children good habits and manners yet we are not mindful enough in managing our own screen time. We can set aside time to connect with our children during meals, bedtime stories and weekend activities.


3. NATURE.

Enjoy nature outdoors together as family. Walk in the garden, swimming or any outdoor activities that everyone can participate and enjoy.


4. MEDITATE.

Learn to meditate with yourself and have your children learn as well. We can practice mindfulness and meditate together as family to have meaningful connections as a family.


5. EMOTION WELL-BEING.

Give yourself and your children permission to feel and have open conversations, practice listening and sharing emotions without judgment.
